Lasers, Optoelectronics And Terahertz Imaging And Spectroscopy

Supercontinuum Generation Using Ultrafast Laser Pulses
through a Photonic Crystal Fiber

Photonics encompasses all technologies related to the manipulation and interaction of light with matter. Towards this end the research in the department focuses on developing a wide range of techniques that cover a broad range of the electromagnetic spectrum to study various forms of matter. Throughout our laboratories research is not only focused on understanding nano and bulk properties of various materials using light but also developing new tools that can be used to perform these tasks.

Examples of ground breaking research into development of various light technologies include ultrafast fiber laser development, terahertz systems for spectroscopy and imaging as well as optical metrology solutions for industrial use, and plasma diagnostics development using both active and passive spectroscopy techniques.

Research Areas

  • Bulk Materials (Semiconductors, Dielectrics)
  • Nanomaterials / Thin Films (Graphene, Nanocomposites)
