Abstract: In this talk I first want to introduce the Heun Function and its confluent forms, which is widely used in theoretical and mathematical physics nowadays. Although this differential equation with four singular points was found in 1889, physics community seems to have discovered it only recently. I found 242 papers in Web of Science when I searched with the title “ Heun functions” , ( 383 if I use the title “Heun equation”), and 203 of these papers were written after 2010. I will give some examples where these equations appeared in earlier physics literature, and also in some recent work, especially in particle physics and in general relativity. I will discuss some attempts to avoid this equation in certain problems, done by some eminent physicists.
