Thermally and Optically Stimulated Luminescence Laboratory

METU Physics Department

Portable OSL  reader constructed in the laboratory

Overview

Thermally and Optically Stimulated Luminescence Laboratory (TOSL) was established in 2005. TOSL is focused on studies  of effect of ionizing radiation in wide band-gap semiconductors and insulators mainly using luminescence techniques such as  Thermoluminescence (TL) and Optically Stimulated  Luminescence (OSL). Basic applications areas of these research include archeological dating, retrospective dosimetry (accident dosimetry), environmental, high dose and medical dosimetry.

·  Photon counters and other data acquisition systems

and distributed over three laboratories located in the first and second floors of Physics Department. One of these labs is furnished as an electronic workshop for the maintenance and development of luminescence readers we use, the other two is for the sample preparation and measurement.

In addition, we have access to several spectroscopic facilities such as X and Q band ESR, UV-visible, fluorescence, powder X-ray diffractometer  and gamma irradiation facilities in the department and in the other departments of the university.

In our storage we keep  a stock of various types of sticky tapes (the most versatile scientific tool of all times)
